A series of articles about golf circa 1912 published in the Philadelphia Ledger. Wow! What great articles. All about golf in the early stages of development here in the U.S. I will begin posting these articles very soon. Even though we are in the 21st century, you will love the insight by Alex on late 19th and early 20th century golf throughout the world. More to come.
Imagine, when Alex came to the U.S. in 1886 little did he realize that he would design nearly 500 golf courses, Invite and Play golf with Harry Vardon in 1901 (over 4000 holes and the only peson ever to beat Vardon in these exhibitations) and then make movies with Vardon depicting the proper way to play golf. All while this is going on he designs his own golf clubs fro Wright & Ditson Sporting Goods (Became Spaulding) then becomes a golf writer with a number of series of articles such as the Breezy Notes printed in the Philadelphia Ledger and the P.G.C. Tidings articles in New Jersey. All of this while constantly promoting golf at every opportunity.
